Wife Swap
Yes, Wife Swap relies on stereotypes that are opposite of one another. I watched the episode Boss/Guastaferro and it was horrible. The Boss family stereotyped a feminist family that teaches all three little girls to be independent, educated, strong, powerful, and all around knowledge. The children learn greatly about feminist women, who made their mark in history. The mother does not allow the girls to wear make-up because it signals that girls are pressured to be good looking and a thing for men. The Guastaferro family is a stereotype of a single, perfect little child that is spoiled greatly by her parents. However, the girl is spoiled far beyond anything you can imagine. Her parents spend over 100,000 dollars each year on her beauty Padget alone!! Also, she has no chores at all, they have a Christmas tree up and give her a present every day, her own mom does ALL her homework, her dad is her very own stylist, and she is very self-centered. The woman are protrayed as the center for stereotypes on each show. They are the victims of each show because every drama scene are always centered around a woman or the series of them. That is why the show is called Wife Swap!!! They are like an item you can sell, trade, or own.

It is an interesting point that you make about the women being portrayed as the center for stereotypes on each show. I agree with this, only because clearly that is the main intent of the show. They want the women of the families to impose their rules and (probably) different lifestyles to create a dramatic scenario. They aren't exactly "victims," they sign up for it! And we all need to remember that the families probably beef up their personal lives; they might not be AS crazy as they all seem. It is all the makings of an interesting show!
