I've seen many episodes of wife swap and I definitely think it plays along with many stereotypes. Just like a lot of people have said already, the moms play the typical housewife that drives the kids around and cooks and cleans. Also it will usually be a more "civilized" and modern family with the big fancy house and the dad that works that will switch with a family who doesn't care much about image that lives out in the woods. I feel like these episodes are meant to show what a family is "supposed" to be like and what dysfunctional families are like.
