RTV
To me, for something to be considered reality TV it has to be unscripted, yet not everything that is unscripted has to be reality TV. For example, I do not see football as being reality TV, even though it is unscripted and the final outcome is unknown. The way I see it, sports has always just been on its own separate platform away from all of the reality TV shows. In fact, I often use watching sports as a way to get away from some of the reality nonsense even if it is a game with teams I don't particularly care for.

Good defining points here, but do you think the definition of RTV is a little more ambiguous than you allow? Are shows we commonly consider RTV such as Jersey Shore, etc. completely "unscripted"?
A lot of RTV shows nowadays are made to seem to be 'reality' when they are actually scripted. So by saying RTV has to be unscripted, you are eliminating a lot of shows the media considers reality TV, such as Jersey Shore as Ms. Cowart mentioned above. I do agree with you that sports are in their own category and while they are technically 'reality' because it is happening in real time, I would not consider to them to be RTV either.
