Dirty Jobs

I chose to analyze the show Dirty Jobs. The purpose of this show is to inform people about jobs they may not have known about or may not appreciate. The host, Mike Rowe, travels around the country and does different “dirty jobs” that people don’t often think about. It is also very entertaining. Mike is very funny and makes jokes throughout the show, getting the audience to connect with him and the people he is working with on the show. The audience is mostly adults. The commercial shown before each video online is for anti-flea medication for pets, which reaches out to an adult audience more than teens. Also, the host, Mike, is an attractive older man, which is appealing for older women. The plot is structured in a way that the audience is watching Mike perform these different jobs and we see the problems he has and his interactions with the guests on the show. He asks them questions, jokes around with them, and helps the audience relate to them. He performs different tasks to show all the different aspects of each job so at the end of the show, the audience feels like they have learned something. The show is filmed in somewhat of a documentary style, which makes it seem more serious and informative, but still entertaining and fun to watch.
