Treasure Shows
Treasure reality TV shows have become a big hit recently. These shows are informative and interesting. With the state of the economy, people are constantly trying to find something that they can hit the jackpot by doing- even if its selling grandma's old possessions. The target audience for the shows is middle aged to older people. But, I think they also attract a younger audience as well. I have watched Pawn Stars a few times and people have brought in samurai swords, ancient trunks, old toys, and many more things. Some of the items appear useless but others are very interesting. The family dynamic on Pawn Stars is comical too. Some of the items that seem useless can end up selling for thousands of dollars. And the opposite can also happen, things that I thought would sell for a lot of money didn't get purchased by the shop at all because of small damages that made the item worthless. The cast of characters and the variety of things brought onto each episode is what makes the show fun to watch.

I agree, in this economy we all want to strike it rich in an unexpected way. Who hasn't dug in the sand at the beach as a kid hoping to find a treasure.
That's a good point you make by saying that everyone wants to "hit the jackpot" by any means nessesary due to the current economic state. By watching people sell their old things and get cash makes them wonder what they could go sell and walk away with the cash. The fact that the family dynamics are quite comedical i believe is one of the main reasons people will want to watch the show many times over. We get to know the people's attitudes and wonder what types of deals they'll be cutting on the upcoming objects.
I do think that it is true that she show appeals to a wide variety of people. Normally, it is older people who watch the show, but it does attract younger poeple because some of the stuff that is brought in to sell is actually really cool.
I do agree with you and its definetly true that everyone is trying hit the "jackpot". But i think the audience can be specified to middle class families as the main target. The variety of characters is also definetly something that attracts viewers.
