"Trashy" RTV
Personally I have watched a few episodes of American Pickers and have been rather entertained. However, I believe the target audience is an older crowd, maybe from 30 and up. A lot of the things that they collect are very old, and not many people that aren't old enough don't know what they are or have respect/ interest in the items. I believe there is a sudden infatuation with "trash-to-treasure" shows because of the economic decline... but not necessarily for the reason most would think. Of course part of it is that buying used things or old things tend to be less expensive, but I also think that collecting antiques is a way of going back to the good old days and getting your mind off of the struggles that Americans are going through right now. The shows are entertaining because they let us into someone's actual job, and we get to see antiques that have not been seen in ages. I also think its entertaining because of the "pickers" they have hosting it. I know on American Pickers the two men are very witty and entertaining to watch together.

I liked the point you brought up about people thinking about the "good old days". I had never really thought about that as being a possibility. I also agree with your point that the audience is an older crowd. I don't think very many younger people would be interested in the show because it isn't as dramatic or fast paced as other shows on TV directed at that age group.
I completely agree about the older audience, i didn't find it entertaining really at all because everything is old. Thats a really good point about trying to et back to the good ole days, never would havve thought like that.
