Game Shows

Based on our discussions in class I guess you would have to call game shows such as surviver, top shot, and things like that reality TV. I never looked at them as reality TV but I supose they are by definition, but I am still not convinceted. Reality shows, to me, are about reality, (wheather they are fake or not) and game shows have nothing to do with reality . On the other hand, the drama that happens outside the actual challenges between the contestents is reality, so would would you call this a reality show or another genre.

I am convinced that game shows are probably the most reality shows we can get at times. In "Slumdog Millionare" the show "who wants to be a millionare" in India is defintley based off a true story. TV game shows do not purposely pick their contestants most of the time. It is the luck of the draw for many contestants and actually tests people's knowledge for once. Some get lucky, others don't but you see that concept is the reality of life there. There are Cinderella stories, brain whizzes, and just flat out dumb people in shows and in life. So game shows do fit accordingly with the category "reality TV".
