Girls Next Door vs Sister Wives

I watched a couple of episodes from The Girls Next Door and watched a couple of clips from Sister Wives and I think it’s all crazy. I think The Girls Next Door is more entertaining and has a younger audience because it is the Playboy Mansion and they have all these crazy parties and photo shoots but I think that Sister Wives has an older audience because it’s an average family, well kind of, and has a more serious tone to it. I think the message for each show is to demonstrate how “normal” it is to some people to have multiple girlfriends and wives and how the wives are so content and everyone just loves each other. Even though I definitely think that The Girls Next Door is more of a show for entertainment because I’m not sure how serious the playboy mansion can be taken. I think the wives in the Sister Wives show are just brainwashed and dumb for thinking that it’s okay for him to love and be with them all, because he’s basically having his cake and eating it too. It just makes women seem used. And in The Girls Next Door it’s all definitely for the fame, glamour, and money but everyone that watches the show knows this, which is why I don’t think this show gets as much criticism.

While both shows are merely forms of entertainment, you bring up a good point about criticism. The show that dramatizes real-life situations (Sister Wives) receives heavier criticism because it's a sensitive issue in our society. People will have serious opinions about that lifestyle, and criticize the show even though it's entertainment. The opposite can be seen with Girls Next Door, because the situations presented in that show are not sensitive issues in the real world. They exist for the most part only in the TV environment.

Good point both of you about how representation can affect reception!
