My view on the Jersey Shore

I do think that the Jersey Shore can be offensive. This show is not the first show to portray people from New Jersey in such a light. There have been multiple episodes of True Life that have done the same. The people who chose to volunteer or/and audition, or whatever it may be, are constantly those with the same attitudes, those looking to start drama. The Jersey Shore could not possibly portray every type of person that one is bound to encounter if they were to take a trip to where the show is shot. Because of shows such as the Jersey Shore and True Life, and even random shows on other television channels, viewers begin to stereotype. But who can blame them? The only people at fault for the stereotypes are the casts and producers. I'm not saying that the show is not entertaining, because it is, but it is important that people recognize that this is its only purpose. It is made to entertain not to teach lessons. As long as people are wise enough to not go out and reenact everything that happens in the shows, I think that it is perfectly fine for the show to be on air. I do however believe that parents of younger children should not allow their kids to watch this show so they do not model after it.

i completely agree with this post. i cant stand to watch Jersey Shore, i think its the most rediculas show on air, BUT i dont think it should be flagged as offensive at all. if this show is considered offensive then shouldnt just about every other reality show should be too. just because a show that maybe shouldnt have become as popular as it did, doesnt mean that it isnt good entertainment, and isnt good for us to have. once again i HATE Jersey Shore but it gives teens all over the U.S. a reason to hang out together and watch a tv show together and enjoy themselves. is that really a crime? some people need to get off Jersey Shores back and simply not watch it if it bothers them (like i do)

I agree with both of you, but also when people watch the Jersey Shore and the reason it's so popular is because everyone makes fun of them. I think people's intentions when watching this show aren't good, everyone I know gets together to laugh at Snooki being punched in the face... the reason they're famous is because of all the stupid things they do and how ridiculous they look and act. Yeah it's entertaining but I dont think MTV should be putting these shows on that serve to create stereotypes of the people from jersey shore and to just make fun of what these people do
