I left a comment on the post below me, and in it I referred to Who Wants to be a Millionaire as a reality tv show. After reviewing my comment, I asked myself, "Are game shows reality tv?" Curious to find out, I searched google and checked the definition of reality television... and I'm still not sure. The definition of reality tv I found is: "The television genre where situations are created by the show's producers, but the show itself is unscripted." Wouldn't game shows fall into this category? Also, it seems like some shows labeled as reality tv are more like game shows than anything else. The line also becomes blurred when a show incorporates qualities of both genres, like Beauty and the Geek, which has reality elements and competition elements. So do reality tv and game shows go hand in hand? Or perhaps game shows are a type of reality tv?

This is a very confusing argument. I am honestly just as befuddled as you are. After reading the definition, it seems as though game shows would be reality tv. What people say isn't scripted at all. But thinking deeper, the show in it's entirety is scripted in a way. The questions and winnings are predetermined, and a lot of times so are the contestents. I'm really unsure what to think.
