World of Jenks - Maino chokes & slaps jenks
In the small clip that I saw, Jenks was trying to get on a more personal level with Maino because he realized he only knew him as rapper. Maino had slapped him and choked him for no reason whatsoever. Jenks went with him to pick up his son from school and called him a "family man". He then went with Maino to the hood and realized he was the only one of his friends that made it out of the projects and is not in jail. They also talk about Maino going to jail. Maino said jail was a good thing. It had changed him, and influenced him to be an artist. This show is about Jenks understanding someone's reality. It's about getting behind the stereotype that that individual has. The intended audience is high school/ college age group. I know this because it's on MTV and that's the typical age group of the viewers. I think World of Jenks is more mature and more realistic than other shows on MTV. It's more of a documentary. It doesn't really fit in to what would normally be shown on MTV, but if he chooses people to follow that MTV viewers like it will be successful. I definitely thought it was interesting and I hope MTV keeps it around.

I haven't seen this show, so I can't make a fair opinion, but I grasp the general concept of what this is about. There's one thing that is usually true through all of reality Tv: people act different on camera. You are not going to see the whole truth of a person or their lifestyle by any means. Sure, parts of it can definitely be accurate, but the vast majority of it is not. Heck, even the memories in my memoir have been heavily altered to enhance the quality of the essay. While World of Jenks may be one of the more "true" reality shows, it's still entertainment. The production was selectively filmed, re-filmed at times, cut down from hours or days of footage to show-length, edited, chopped up, and finalized with the single goal of enjoyment for the viewers. It's similar to how competing political parties will use tiny fragments of an opponent's speech to change the overall message. Most of what we see on Tv is completely out of context, and very little is reality. Again, I'm not saying this is a bad show, I'm just reminding everyone that even quality Tv is loosely based on reality.
