WORLD OF JENKS

This morning on the Today Show, they interviewed Andrew Jenks, a young documentary film maker, about his new MTV show World of Jenks. He had a lot of insight into the realm of documentary film which is a genre of reality television. I want everyone to watch a clip from the show or a whole episode (I'm sure clips and episodes can be found on youtube.com or mtv.com).

Then I want you all to post an analysis of the show.
Write a brief summary of the episode or clip.
Then I want some sort of analysis of the show.
What is the concept? What is the show's purpose?
Who is the intended audience for World of Jenks? How do you know this?
How does a show like World of Jenks compare to Jersey Shore or other reality based television shows on MTV? Write a little about why MTV might choose to incoporate this show. Does it fit in? Why or why not?
Is it successful? Will people watch it?
As always feel free to pose some questions of your own.

I watched the episode on youtube where manio chokes jenk, and it was about the story of a poor man who made it threw all the odds. It took someone from a comfortable envirment that isn't use to struggle for daily essentioals and showed him what he had to go threw. To me this show is no differnt that any other. Alot of shows are about putting people in envirments they arent use to, and they come out learning about the other person. For example, the worlds strictist poarents, or there was a show about rappers takeing people back to there old hoods. Yes, there are small differnces in these shows but the point is all the same and it gets kind of annoying watching thee same show overe and over just with a differnt title. I feel it is time for MTV to either go back to being music based telvision or change there shows and play somthing differnt.

I just finished watching the first episode of World of Jenks, and all I can say is wow! To my surprise this show is actually really interesting. It’s refreshing to see a documentarist take the time to really get inside someone’s life, mind, and past. The episode was about the rapper Maino, how he overcame and got out of the hood, how he parties and how he is considered a role model. Jenks has a lot of guts to put himself in situations like that. I’m still not one hundred percent believing this show is real and not cut and edited to the extreme, but nonetheless it seems pretty legit, and it’s definitely something new for reality t.v.
