In 2005, a friend of mine and his family were chosen to be on Wife Swap. I played football with Ashton growing up, and was always a little weirded out by his family. From the outside this family seemed very "out there" or strange to me. They had mannequins dressed in crazy clothing in their living room, had an old booth from McDonalds as their dining room table, and had 2 Chinese Crested dogs. Both parents had crazy colored hair, along with their 2 dogs that had their mohawks dyed and nails painted, and the family wore a lot of dark clothes and chains and what would be stereotyped as "gothic" clothing. The Wilson family was perfect for the show. They looked like what would be a crazy and unethical family from the outside but when you came to get closer to them and got to know them better you realized that these assumptions were wrong because they are caring and personable people just like anybody else you will meet. When I was in 3rd grade I remember going over to Ashtons' house for Halloween, and was shocked to see that his parents were dressed up as male and female genitalia. The Wilson family were a fun and funny family for America to watch and get to know.
Wife Swap is one of the few reality shows that I can tolerate, simply because it is an actual "reality" show for once. I asked Ashton about his experience being on the show after it aired and he said that it was awesome and he would do it a million times over because not only did the family get a large amount of money for being on the show, but learned many things about what "family" truely means and he learned many things that he will keep in mind for his future family. This show gets an A+ in my book.

I agree with Clayton on this response. It seems to be the only reality show that the people that participate in it get something besides "money" out of it. Like Jersey Shore, Real World, even the challenge shows, you get money. With this show, it seems to make you appreciate what you have. You basically realize what family is and why you deal with the downs because the highs are so good. Its good to see people participating in this show getting something besides money out of it.
