WIFE SWAP ID THE STEREOTYPES
Many of you wrote about the show Wife Swap in your posts about a family RTV show. I want everyone to watch an episode of Wife Swap or clips online and think about how the show relies on and uses stereotypes. Do they stereotype people or groups? Do they stereotype families? What are some of the stereotypes on the show? How does the show portray women?

I don't think that Wife Swap itself stereotypes the families that are chosen for the show, but choose clips from the families that seem stereotypical to how the family looks to promote each episode. Once the show is started though, many times you drop the stereotypes that you have generated about the families because you get to know them and how they live their lives. This show chooses their camilies based on who seems most interesting and who seems like they would be most entertaining, not on stereotypes. The women in the shows are portrayed as the centerpiece of the family. They are the ones that either make or break a family.
