wife swap

The premise of this show is a little similar to the world of jenks because as a wife , you get to live in a different household for two weeks and see what is like living the life of a another woman. The show portrays women as being housewives. Their only job is to take care of the familyamd do daily household chores. This is similar to old times when married women only job was to stay at home to cook, clean etc.. Nowadays , women take on greater responsibilities, especially in industrialized countries women hold offices and other big jobs. The role of women as really changed over the years . Wife swap is showing us what is like to be a housewive which is rarely seen mainly in the American society.

I definitely see how this show relates to The World of Jenks. I never really thought of it like that but it's true because these women have to adapt to a differnet type of lifestyle just like Jenks does. Both shows also deal with certain stereotypes of certain people.

I completely agree with the idea that Wife Swap has parallels to the MTV show, World of Jenks. The basis of the stories are that two families exchange their wifes and immerse themselves in different lifestyles for a period of time. Although this is very true, I don't agree with the former statement which says Wife Swap portrays women as being housewives. It was said that their only job is to take care of the family and do household chores. In the Schroeder/Wardle episode, this isn't the case at all. The gothic mother is quite independent with a job and an entire business, and has her kids wake themselves up and make their own breakfast for themselves. I also don't completely agree with the statement saying that it is now rare to see normal housewives in America. I think women are rising up and getting better jobs and definitely stepping out of the house mom stereotype, but they are by no means "rare" in todays society.
