Glee Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sefQqCMusJI
This Glee trailer makes me want to watch the first season of Glee all over again. It displays drama that is to be shown on the show, like the social order of the school, and it uses humor to draw in viewers. It profiles Fin who is one of the popular kids that steps up to join the glee club. It shows him as a leader and he is breaking the barrier between the popular kids and the geeks. It also profiles Rachel, the star of the glee club. She is misunderstood by her classmates and is shown as driven and fame hungry. The show seems to be different than all other ones on tv and it really makes me want to watch more.

West coast rappers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLqaBhyI0EM

Looking for trailers i came across a interesting one about Suge Knight coming out with a new record label and west coast rappers. Suge Knight being famous for Death Row Records with Tupac and Dr. Dre. The trailer reminds the viewer of the past drama that surrounded all of his past rappers. The trailer shows scenes of fighting, guns being pulled and Suge talking alot of crap about other rappers like snoop and 50 cent. He actually burns a g-unit shirt. This whole trailer is captivating to any rap lover. Its shows the conflicts that rappers have with each other and how the whole production of becoming a rapper happens. The trailer is somewhat long, but it shows everything a viewer would want to see. Once i watched this i wanted to see the show. It shows the audience how Suge handles "Unfinished Business", the name of the show. It is a great trailer for the teen and adult audience.

Buried Life

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRexWE9yBVA

The buried life has very good trailers because it captivates the purple of the show. The way they introduce the characters and basically show the list of things they want to do shows the viewers what they want to do on the show. It is interesting because many people would love to complete there lists of things they want to do before they die. The music and camera angles give the trailer an artsy feel and also makes it more appealing to anyone who is watching.

American Pickers

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2SXxNBZAEo

I think that this American Pickers trailer is really good because it is very interesting. The commercial shows a lot of random cool stuff that the pickers find and how they goof around with the stuff. It also has some pretty catchy music that keeps the viewers watching. The commercial is pretty simple, yet the mix of random stuff going on and cool music makes it hard for viewers to take their eyes off the screen. It is also catchy that the two main characters stay in the same place and everything in the backroud moves. They did a good job with this one.

real world road rules

Ive always thought the RealWorld/Roadrules Challenge has the best trailers. If you watch this one, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85tXqp--UGU, you can see why. Its produced extremely dramatically, almost more dramatic than the show because it shows the high points from one season. It starts off well, then some drama comes in, some fights, and they keep going and showing more and more. For a season trailer its not too long either but the show alot. The only problem with this is, you pretty much see all there is to see in the trailer. Like i said, its extremely dramatic but this is only because it shows most the dramatic points throughout the whole season in 3 min. The show is somewhat entertatinng but trailers like this can really pull you in and sell you to watch a show.

The World of Jenks trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ystkt4maMg0

Andrew Jenks starts off with the song by Kid Cudi called "Soundtrack of my life". Then, it goes right into pictures of action by Jenks. It shows him living in these exotic lifestyles, encountering abnormal people, and performing many unique things. These pictures grips the audience into wanting to see more of the life of Jenks. These lifestyles could attract poker players, fighters, dancers, shooters, the poor of society, and so on. Jenks wants his audience to be able to relate themselves to what happens in each episode. So, by giving a broad overview of his show through a bunch of pictures, he attracts a wide variety of people to come and at least look at the first episode of his show "The World of Jenks".

Giulianna and Bill

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nzB1wGfCOo
Giulianna and Bill is a show that I watch occasionally. This trailer, along with the show itself appeals to me because it is about a E! star and her husband. It is humorous and entertaining. The clip shows the joys and hardships that the couple faces, allowing for some of their audience to relate. It is happy because they have wanted a baby for so long and now they are finally going to have one. The trailer ends asking if they will be able to handle it, causing viewers to want to tune in to find out. It basically uses emotional appeal to attract viewers.

Deadliest Catch Trailer

In this trailer for a season of Deadliest Catch, the makers of the show dial up the "fear" factor that comes along with the job of being on a crab boat. Along with the usual ploys of the show, they seduce you by bragging of the newer, advanced cameras and the ferocity of the new season, saying its the most harrowing yet in the series.

John and Kate +8

John and Kate plus 8 was the former name for reality TV show Kate plus 8..The show portrays a family of 8 kids , twins sisters Cara and Madelyn and the sextuplets. In the first 3 seasons of the show , it seems to us that the parents seem to manage well their roles despite the burden of raising 8 kids in the same age groups at the same time. But the trailer of season 4 is taking a another direction. The words and sounds effects that are used in the season 4 trailer of "John and Kate plus 8" creates a suspense. It appears to us that something far from our imaginations or predictions is about to happen. It creates a tension among the fans because it seems to us that this family of 10 that we've watched and admired is about to split up or something unexpected is about to happen. We cannot fully tell until we watch the show .The role of a trailer is to catch the audience's attention and make them eager to watch the premiere of a show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL3qSxpUE-w

World of Jenks Trailer

http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9IncBUEiIM

This "World of Jenks" season trailer is very creative and well made. It gives bits and pieces from every episode; some being funny, others being serious and intense. The trailer chose short important clips from each episode that would make you want to come back and see what the big argument or commotion was all about. The narrator of the video explains the premise of the show, while the video clips from each episode do the "selling" of the show. The different people shown in this trailer are all in extremely different situations and all live completely different lifestyles so there's at least one situation that would attract the attention of a viewer and get them to tune in again.

Blue Bloods

I think the new TV series Blue Bloods on CBS looks awesome! I love Law & Order SVU and NCIS... basically all of those types of crime and forensic shows. Why am I drawn towards Blue Bloods? It sounds incredibly exciting, with full action scenes and heartfelt drama. The show is about practically a whole family who is involved in the police force; the sister is a District Attorney, the grandfather, father, and son are all police officers and there is another son who is a lawyer. One of the sons and the sister works together on cases, which creates controversy sometimes when they are on a case. Since they are also in the same family, it adds even more meaning and drama when something goes south. I love the shows with the drama, along with the seduction and betrayal and the NYPD. It sounds truly AWESOME. check out the trailer!

World of Jenks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMPrgazLIJI
the trailer for this show is very interesting because it shows many people's job or lives and how they live it. You see "It's not about a rapper.", "It's not about a cheerleader." the show doesnt only show about the person's job, etc, you see how other people live their lives. You see different experiences from Jenks. You see many clips of the lives of a homeless girl, a cheerleader, a rapper, an autism person, and many more. The trailer grabs the viewers attention by throwing in many different experiences from each person to make it more versatile.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHbekhZ5EKs
Eastbound and Down is not exactly reality TV, but what is? He is the funniest man in the world and continues to amaze me every single sunday. The trailer epitomizes the american dream; moving to mexico and playing Mexican league baseball. The show appeals to an older audience with crude humor and language used by Kenny and the gang. The trailer includes extravagent special effects as well as good looking women which attracts the attention of viewers immediately. Riding jetskis and atvs create quite an adrenaline rush!

Bridalplasty

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/this-exists-e-launches-horrific-new-reality-show-bridalplasty/

Like the above article's title states, this new rtv show Bridalplasty just looks sickening and HORRIFIC. 12 brides compete for their dream plastic surgery operations for their wedding. Sure it has a catchy, clever slogan: "the only reality show where the winner get's cut," sure it looks like there's going to be plenty of drama, but when shows as shallow as this are being created, it seriously just makes me want to throw my tv set out salley hall's 6th floor window. The characters seem lame, uninteresting, unattractive, unhappy with their lives, and they obviously feel the urge to be on this show from a major lack in self-confidence.

When asked in this article "will you tune in?" 71% answered Heck no. I think this is a prime example of how not to sell a series and above all a truly horrible, horrible, horrible rtv idea. I just cannot take this show seriously. Is this for real?

24 is the best!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yZuOflEli8

This preview is very suspenseful, because if you have been watching 24, then you would understand just how much of a pickle Jack Bauer is in during this season. The preview does a great job of showing enough to make people want to stay interested, but not soo much so that all the good parts are given away! The drama between Jack and his long lost friend Tony is clearly a hook, as well as the love life between Jack and Renee. The producers of this show did a great job making 24 seem larger than life, and Jack Bauer appears to have super powers! lol

Gleeeee!

This preview makes me really want to watch the show. It involves so many creative aspects. First off, they introduce famous people to promote it. That already a plus because if you like them then you are gonna want to watch the show. After they introduce the show, the clips begin for the fall season of Glee. The voice over gets me excited." the moment you've been waiting for"....in addition it shows many clips in a short amount of time. If it was too long then we'd lose focus real easily. The fast moving pace of the clip leaves the viewer wanting more. So we don't want to give away to much in our own reality tv clip. Bits and pieces of unresolved drama is the best. It's all about effectiveness. The introduction to characters is also really successful. Just by one important sentence said by the character, the viewer can learn alot about him/her. In addition, they add amazing songs that sound catchy. They give us music and drama. It sums up the show in a small amount of time. Fast and to the point.

BEST RTV TRAILERS AND PREVIEWS ON TV

Now that you are underway in creating your own reality television show and a trailer or short preview to go along with it, I want you to start evaluating RTV trailers/previews on the air/online now. Post a link to a preview or trailer that you find especially successful, intriguing, funny, scary, full of attention grabbing drama, etc. Along with the link to a video clip, I'd like for you to briefly analyze the trailer/preview. What makes it so successful? What tactics does it employ to grab the audience's attention? Drama, comedy, emotional appeal? What makes you want to watch more? Does it use interesting characters to grab your attention, profile people you want to know more about? Does it flash around attractive men and women? good food? a big fight? Does it seem like it has an interesting plot? How does it advertise/sell the series?

why wouldn't producers step in?

Wouldn't you stop an intoxicated woman getting into a car with the intentions of driving? in reality people would try to prevent dangerous things like this from happening so nobody gets hurt. Why wouldn't the producers step in when dangerous situations are happening right before their eyes. regardless of whether they are supposed to be there or not they should step in and prevent harmful situations, that's what normal bystanders would do.

teen mom

i went home the other day and for some strange reason ended up watching teen mom with my mom and sister. I saw the couple that always argues (i dont kno the names) but my mom informed me that their baby was taken away. I think that was a good idea, even though it sucks for the parents to not have their baby currently maybe it will be a good reality check. i think it was right for someone to step in.

Too real for TV

Obviously when the cameras are rolling, individuals feel the need to make "great television." Im sure Pam does pound Vodka before every car ride with or without the intervention camera crew. She can get away with it scot free even though it is being done on national television. There is definately a gray area for producers and filmers on where and when they need to pull the plug. But legally it is not their obligation so I do not feel as though they are doing anything wrong. The people on these shows are adults they can make their own decisions.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

very thin line

Like the article said, there is a very delicate line when to step in. And like the article said their is no law saying you have to. As in intervention which i have seen many times, there should be times where a parent or person close to them should step in and stop them from doing drugs or alcohol before driving. But the cameraman has no obligation to. What it comes down to is that its a show and thats what the network pays for and why we watch it. There is a very thin line and depending on the person watching the show it can be crossed, but not for everyone. If someone is about to commit suicide you drop the camera and stop them, if they down a bottle of alcohol and pills you just hope they survive their horrible decisions.

Stepping In

Many shows on TV have had an issue between people getting into fights. I believe the producer needs to step in when it gets serious like a fight. Once it happens, something needs to be done to stop the fight. If the producers keep rolling the tapes when two people fight and someone gets hurt, that someone could sue the show for the fight. The point is to capture reality until someone's life is at danger.

Reality Issues

I don't think there should be any laws written saying that the camera crew has to step in and stop something that doesn't look like the best situation for the people on the show. This is REALITY television isn't it?! If I were a camera man and saw something bad happening I would obviously go over and try my best to stop it simply because I would feel wrong watching it. But there shouldn't be any controversy or debate about wheter or not it is mandatory to cut the camera off and step in to intervene a "sticky" situation. The physical abuse on Teen Mom being reported to the police is what I believe should have been done, for once my hat is off to MTV.

Where to draw the line?

Although the point is to capture reality, there has to be a point where a line is drawn. I believe that a fimmaker/camera crew should be required to step in when those being filmed are going to harm their own lives or someone elses. Minor crimes are managable because they do make for good entertainment, but when someone is being dangerous and a harm to others, that is neither funny nor entertaining. I also that that a big part of the problem is the people who chose to be on reality television shows. The NY Times article talks about children witnessing their alcoholic mother being so drunk that she was throwing up on camera. That mother who chose to be on the show is leaving an everlasting image in her childrens' minds. She is the one who is in control of her actions and is being a terrible mother for exposing herself in front of millions. I think that the rules on interferring in reality tv shows should be clarifyed and all producers should have to follow them.

Too real? It gets that way.

I feel that at times reality TV gets too real. Producers should have teams at the ready to eal with te situations, such as fights that break out or emotion abuse. The actors in these shows are humans too, therefore they should be treated like humans. They need help too at times and need to be stopped at times. This would save them from future problems like drug addictions, jail time or loss of life. Some may say that this view is radical, but consider this; what if it was you on a reality show and you were physically hurt, emotionally abused, or put into danger? Wouldn't you want help offered or forced upon you to help you, and save you from any future troubles?

No line

There is no line for reality TV. For example jackass films there people jumping out of planes without parachutes and stuff that could kill them everyday and they don't feel the least bit bad about it. That may be an extrem case, but other shows have no problme makeing there producers cause drama and let the cameras record it as it unfolds.

consequences of reality tv

Reading the NY Times article, I definitely agree that if people are put in danger then the producers should step in rather than worrying about the cameras. But i think this goes for life threatening situations such as drunk driving or overdosing on something. But for lets say that episode of teen mom where she is continuously hitting him, I mean he's a big guy, I really don't believe he was really physically hurt so I'm not even sure if it was a big deal that the camera men didn't step in and she knows she's on camera so she can be ready to face the consequences for what she did, therefore she can be penalized for it, but not MTV

Too Real

I think that shows like Teen Mom should have teams ready for dangerous situations. I do think that if domestic violence occurs that it should be stopped by someone present but to keep it "real" MTV should show its staff stepping in so that the viewers can realize the severity of the situation.

Where's the line?

Even though the point of reality tv is to capture the lives of people as if the cameras weren't there, the camera and the people behind them are there. So when the people being filmed pose a threat to themselves and the people around them then it's time to step out from behind the cameras and intervene. Yes, the camera men and producers are techinically just bystanders but they shouldn't let dangerous situations happen on their watch. I think they should call the police when situations like Amber and Gary on Teen Mom go down. People shouldn't be allowed to get away with things just because they are on a TV show.

When does RTV get to real?

This topic made me laugh a little because how can reality TV get to real? It is suppose to be real. I don't believe that the people working on the show should have to step in. These people allow crews to come into their homes and tape their lives. Without the crews there they would be doing the same things, unless they are told to do that stuff in which case it isn't real.

rtv

This has been an issue since early reality tv. Sometimes the producers let the violence continue because then more people will watch it. But these aren't actors, these are real people. There is the chance that their fights are scripted it, but if something were to happen it's on them. At some point, they have to control the situation considering they're the ones that put the people in the situation in the first place. It is the producers goal (of shows like jersey shore and real world) to show these dangerous situations occurring, yet stopping them before they get too out of control.

Reality!

I noticed that sometimes the film people and producers have to choose between ratings and what's right. Money is what brings food to their family and clothes on their backs. But hey, if it was me seeing a situation that I could step in and avoid, I would gladly. When you see someone getting abused or mistreated, the question shouldn't be whether you should step in. It should be how to step in. One should also think about the bad influences that are being fed to the viewers. If this is what they think is "reality", they will act upon it. Instead of talking through their problems, people will physically fight it out. These people have a responsibility to do what's right.

Monday, November 8, 2010

There is a fine line between reality TV that is good drama because it is just amusing but then there is the problem of letting it go to far to the point where it may put people or the main character in danger. I understand the point of documentary TV is to see the real life of some people. If the camera crew was to step in when it looked like a scene was about to turn horrible the viewing would surely drop. But I believe that it is the camera crew's responsibility to step in with issue like drinking and driving because that could end up harming innocent people and if they didn't stop it they would just be sitting there watching it all happen uselessly. Also, since there is a camera crew their the main character may be acting more radical then they normal would so in fact its never really reality at all, which means they have no excuse for not stopping dangerous scenes.

Free for all!

I think that, considering the fact that 9 times out of 10 the shows in question are scripted, coupled with the fact that "trainwreck" style entertainment is what makes all the money in this country, the producers, camera men, etc. should not step in ever and just let the show play out. I mean, most of the "violence" is scripted anyways, what does it matter if someone steps in or not, no one is going to get hurt! I think that these shows should just play out the way they're meant to be, and continue entertaining the masses.

Is filming the only jobs of cameraman when it comes to RTV ?

What makes reality TV show like Teen mom so popular and interesting to watch is the non stop drama between the two teen parents and the abusive relationship that they are dealing with daily. In almost all the episode they is always a fight or a fierce argument between the actors. This is sending a negative image to the fans of the show. The primary purpose of the show should be to reduce teen pregnancy by portraying the miserable, harsh life and many responsabilities of teens parents. I think after filming each episode , the creator/filmaker of those reality show should get together and delete scenes that are showing violence, abusive act, and everything that are sending a bad message to the public. But why do filmaker/cameraman allow those negativities to be aired on TV ? the answer is MONEY . Without those unexpected drama, the show would lose at least half of its audience. I mean seriously who would want to watch or buy the DVD of a show that constantly showing the boring and hard life of teen parents. Filmakers allow those violence to be seen in order to "spice up" and create tensions among the viewers of the show and make it more interesting to watch.

Mr. Mettler Should Be Careful

I think there is a very fine line between being safe with filming and knowing when to stop. With the A&E show, "Intervention," I think the producer has been skimming right on that line numerous times. The New York Times article, "When Reality TV Gets Too Real," goes into detail about this show and how the producer, Mr. Mettler, has gone off camera multiple times to stop the person being filmed from doing something stupid. One lady named Pam was chugging out of a Vodka bottle and about to get in her car to drive. Mettler tried to convince her that they could drive her wherever she wanted to get to, but she assured him that she was fine to drive. What would happen to Mettler and his show if she got in an accident on the way to her destination and killed an innocent driver? He would clearly get sued, but the NYT is telling us that it is hard to catch him in anything because he is merely observing her life and filming it. He is not required by the law to stop her. I think his morals should kick in and not let her drive.

A short, thin line between reality and RTV

The article spoke about a directors standpoint of view on a reality TV show. In the case of "Teen Mom", if a fight were to break out, then a director either had the choice of intervening with the situation or just keeping the cameras rolling and the crew only being observers to the scene. The crew and cameraman are only consider third party members and they are not liable on the actions of the cast members of the show. This is according to a legal standpoint. However, from a moral standpoint, the cast has every responsibility to stop illegal actions from happening. One, because maybe the cast member is doing this on purpose in order to create more drama and hype for the show. If this sense is true, then the crew is reliable for that persons actions because they're presence instigated those actions. On another standpoint, if it is the mere nature of the cast member to carry out illegal actions, then the crew is not reliable for those consequences. Yet, many people have morals and there is always a line in which it is the duty of an individual to intervene in a situation so innocent people will not get hurt. The article showed scences from the shows "Intervention" and "Cops" in which people went to far in their actions, causing others to get hurt in the end. The line between reality and RTV is based on our morals, which can be a wide spectrum depending on the person.

Too Real for RTV

In the article When Reality TV Get's Too Real Jeremy W. Peters mentions "the sticky situations that reality-show producers can find themselves in as they document unpredictable and unstable subjects or situations." However, I have to wonder why is it that reality tv is focusing on such trainwreck individuals? That's hardly reality for most people and why is it entertaining for us to watch someone make bad decisions and risk their lives? When shows like Intervention show scenes such as Pam the alcoholic drunk-driving, they are in fact glamorizing and blanketing the seriousness of the situation. It was wrong for the crew to not stop her. Thousands of people die each year in car accidents from alcohol-related fatalities. It doesn't matter if these people make "great television," they're putting innocent people's lives at risk and perhaps they wouldn't be motivated to perform such drastic actions if there was no video camera present.

Is RTV getting too real

To me reality television is suppose to represent or document real life. However, it is also for entertainment, and we all know that means violence, sex, drugs for the majority of viewers. So shows like "Intervention" follow different people who are dealing with an issue like alcoholism or drug addiction. Well that example of the lady drinking and then driving is pushing it because she could have been seriously hurt if she crashed. Most other shows that the cast members fight, camera crews should intervene when it gets bad. Many want to see violence but it does not take someone to get seriously hurt to be entertaining.

Is Reality too Real for TV?

I'm glad that we got to read this article because I can honestly say I have always wondered how people get away with circumstances such as, "drinking and driving" on tv. It makes sense in the directors perspective to want to film people doing real life activities especially for a reality television show, due to the fact that it would give them more credibility. When watching a reality tv show such as, Intervention, it would make sense to see how people act normally, even if it means drinking and driving. I truely don't think it's the smartest or safest way to conduct a television series, however it's what they want their show to be based on and gives the viewers what they want to see.

Camera Men/Producers Etc. stepping in

This is an interesting issue that has somewhat surrounded reality TV ever since the early Real World to the Road Rules and so on. Obviously the object at all time is the show but at the same time, this is reality TV, these are real people, and they're not actors. While the focus should be on the show, is somebody is fighting, or a relationship is abusive, or something along those lines, it should be the producer or camera mans obligation to step in. Sure ratings could go down, but at the same time at this point its not about the show and it's more than that. I mean if its a little shoving match, or a verbal arguement, obviously they should let the show play out but there is a point where they should feel they have to step in and occasionally you will see this in a show. The reverse of this is how possibly it can increase ratings as well. The producers can cut what they want and sometimes theyll include these parts where producers go in and more. Its frequently seen most likely in every Real world season at least once. But overall, there is a point where they do have to step into it just because it is "reality" and while some is scripted there are points where these are people and not actors.

When RTV Gets too REAL

I want you to read the 2007 NY Times Article “When Reality TV Gets Too Real.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/08/business/media/08reality.html

This has been an ongoing issue for documentary film makers for quite some time – when to step in and when to keep filming- and the responsibility of a documentary film maker to step in on dangerous situations is controversial. Nonetheless, the line is thin. Now that reality TV is a booming genre, the same issues are cropping up. We discussed earlier this semester the implications of MTV stepping into the abusive relationship of Amber and Gary on Teen Mom. Where do you stand on this issue? When should a filmmaker/camera crew be required to step in on a situation? Should they be required to at all if the point is to capture reality?

Cheaters

My final paper will be on the smash hit known simply as "Cheaters." I will delve into the mind of both the accused and accuser finding out what drives the morality of the show. Also it will be hilarious to write a paper about the events in the show.

Paper topic

I would write my paper on Laguna Beach which aired on MTV a couple of years back and then evolved into the show The Hills today.
three questions would be
1. how did the MTV cameras alter the teens lives (better or worse)
2. does MTV use the teens lives to glamorize alcohol and sex to the viewers
3. how much is actual reality and is this show meaningful at all

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

The Biggest Loser

I will be analyzing The Biggest Loser on NBC. I will discuss the truth behind the actual amount of weight lost during the show by the contestants and see whether what is said on TV is really true or not. I will also analyze the effect the show has on its viewers, and the effect the show has on the contestants after the show is over.

I bet you will

I will be doing my reality tv analysis on the MTV show i bet you will. I will answer: What is the purpose of the show? How does it affect society? Why does the show target college students?

The Hills

I want to do my paper on the reality tv show The Hills. It is aired on mtv and the three questions i want to ask in my paper are: how authentic is the material on the show? why has it become such a phenomenan? what makes it different from other reality tv shows? The Hills has become one of the most popular shows on tv and i want to analyze why that is.

Final

My favorite reality TV shows are all on History channel right now. Pawn Stars, American Pickers, and American Restoration are all, in my opinion, the best shows out right now. It was tough to decide which show to do my paper on, but I decided upon American Pickers. The three things I want to know are:
1) What is the history behind picking?
2) How do they know whats worth money when they pick through junk?
3) What are some of the stories behind the people being "picked" and how do they get all this stuff?

Final Paper Proposition

For my final paper, I plan t0 delve deeper into the Reality TV World with possibly the only RTV show I watch (besides Jersey Shore) Pawn Stars . This is a great show to watch. You can actually learn a thing or two. The characters are fantastic.

1. How do customers get on the show?
2. How do prices differ with each employee?ie. family disputes
3. How much of this show is actually staged?
I chose the show American Choppers which is the story of the Orange County Choppers on Discovery Channel. Some questions are...

1. How real is this show?
2. What is the audience
3. What is the purpose of this show ?

True Life

I will be writing my last paper on the MTV Reality Show True Life. The main questions I want to answer are: how did they find the people to be on the show? Why did MTV only choose such dramatic topics? How did MTV come up with this type of show? True Life contains situations which most people aren't accustomed to, which makes it all the more intriguing to watch.

reality project

For this project i plan on comparing made and Biggest losers. Made is on MTV and Biggest Losers on NBC. The main three questions will be how each show changes the people. How the audience is suppose to react to the show? And how the participants act.

. title of RTV show
2. network
3. three questions you will be exploring in your paper
4. optional video clip

The Paper

The Paper (name of the show) was produced by MTV a few years back. Although it was awful, it was filmed at my school so at least I have something in common with it. Possible questions I will explore are as follows:

1.) How did the production affect the lives of the cast?
2.) How did the production affect those around it (i.e. the rest of the school)?
3.) What benefit, if any, did the show have on society (either local or global)?

Paper 3 RTV Analysis

For my 3rd paper topic I plan on writing about the evolution of reality tv. From the beginning, when reality television started in the 1950s with the growth of quiz shows to reality television today in 2010. I plan on focusing on the "quizlings" from the Golden Age of television such as the quiz shows Twenty One (NBC) and The $64,000 Question (CBS), then comparing them to reality tv shows today such as Fear Factor (NBC), Survivor (CBS), Project Runway (BRAVO), and maybe even Keeping Up with The Kardashians (E!) and The Real World (MTV).

Some questions to explore:
1. Are all reality tv shows fixed and scripted? and have they always been this way?
2. How much has rtv really changed since the 1950s?
3. Is the audience the same?

final paper

For my third and final paper, I plan to write on the show Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew (concentrating on the 2nd series). The questions Im going to answer is why did he pick the celebrities on the show when there are so many with problems? Second, Why do people enjoy watching this show, what do they get out of it? And finally, I plan to answer the question that should be answered about every reality TV show, how much of it is real, how mow much was acted and planned?

F0r my paper on Reality TV I have decided to write my about the show Americas Next Top Model. It is a show run my Tyra Banks and has been on for years. I plan on looking at how this show skews a woman perceptive on themself. I believe that it brings self confidence down because all the girls on this show are 5.9 and weight a 100 pounds. But if this show just brings women down on their own self apperence then why does it continue to go up in the rating, and women around the world watch it? What is it that still makes it appealing to the average women in america

RTV

For my RTV paper, I want to write about the show, Intervention.
1. What effect does this show have on its viewers?
2. Do they only pick the worst of the people addicted to be showed?
3. Is it staged or have they made the addictions seem worse than they actually are just for viewers? If so, is it for society to better itself or simply for entertainment?

My RTV paper

For my third paper I'm going to analyze the show "Gangland." The network it can be found on is The History channel. The 3 questions Im going to ask are...

1. How is this a more real representation of reality than a show such as "The Real World".

2. Why is the way of life portrayed in Gangland even in existence in America?

3. How can the cycle of gang related violence be stopped?

Paper 3 proposal

For my paper, I will be looking into the new series called "The World of Jenks". However, I want to specifically focus on one episode called "The Takeover". This episode focuses on a professional poker player's lifestyle as Jenks follows along with the poker player. This episode presents many and social problems with the poker player. Each scene has its own unique message to the world about the many problems people can develop from gambling. 1. What gambling problems are presented in this episode? How does Jenks help depict each problem with gambling from the professional poker player's lifestlye? What can each viewer learn from this episode after watching a week's lifestyle of a professional player? The network of this show is on MTV.

Paper 3 RTV analysis

For my final paper, I want to explore how society uses reality tv shows to make things acceptable that may not have been before. I want to examine the shows Sister Wives, 16 and pregnant, and Real World. These shows air on TLC and MTV. My questions are how society reacted to these shows? How these shows are used to bring awareness to things that weren't publicized before? And how have they changed our outlooks?

Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew

For my third and final paper I have decided to write on one of my favorite reality tv shows of all time... Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew. I'm not sure why it was my favorite show, all I know is that whenever it was on, my eyes were glued to the tv screen. It aired on VH1 and only ran for one season.
The three questions I plan to explore and analyze throughout my paper are as follows:
1. Why were those certain celeberties picked to be on first season of Sex Rehab? Yes they all had addicitons but was it to create drama between the sexes?
2. Did doctor Drew really help these celeberties overcome there problems? And was all the drama real or planned?
3. How does this show affect its audiance? Is it in a positive light or negative?

Project 3 Proposal

The Reality show that I would like to analyze is Extreme Makeover surgery on TLC. I chose this show because I find it crazy to see how the world views and defines beauty for all the viewers.
1) What does the show illustrate as being beautiful?
2) What are the reactions of the family and friends that see the person before and after, and how does that affect the emotional response of the person who is undergoing the surgery.
3) How does the show itself tilt towards one true perception of beauty.
4) What type of viewers watch this show?

Paper 3 RTV analysis

For this third paper , I plan to write my analysis on the reality TV show "keeping up with the Kardashians" aired on E at 10 pm on Sundays. My paper will consist of questions such as : How rich families are viewed in the American society ? Why do women between the ages of 18 to early forties are the main audience of this show ? Can us " non celebrities" relate to the show? Is there any lesson that can be learned from each episode ?.

Paper 3 RTV analysis

True Life

1)True Life
2)MTV
3)Does it show reality? Is the show based on stereotypes? How is grouping stereotypes effective television?

Along with the title of your show, I want you to include the network/channel on which it it aired and at least 3 questions you will explore in your analysis. We went over plenty of questions last week, and if you need more examples look to the questions I posed about various shows on this blog. You also might include a video clip of the show.
Oh, and you still need to comment on each other's blog posts... maybe you can offer suggestions for other questions to explore or angles to approach a certain show.
Make them good!!!!

Recap. For this week's post include:
1. title of RTV show
2. network
3. three questions you will be exploring in your paper
4. optional video clip

wife swappp

I've seen many episodes of wife swap and I definitely think it plays along with many stereotypes. Just like a lot of people have said already, the moms play the typical housewife that drives the kids around and cooks and cleans. Also it will usually be a more "civilized" and modern family with the big fancy house and the dad that works that will switch with a family who doesn't care much about image that lives out in the woods. I feel like these episodes are meant to show what a family is "supposed" to be like and what dysfunctional families are like.

Wife Swap?

I hate to rain on everyone's parade, but seriously, this is show is ridiculous. What television employee's awful idea was this? (Seriously, trading mothers with another family?) Why does anyone find this entertaining? Sorry to those I offend, but I just can't get into this, and posting here is a requirement. Honestly, I'm beginning to think most people watch reality tv just because that's what they are "supposed" to do, similar to how kids are "supposed" to play with certain toys based on their gender. Wife Swap, and many other shows, were just awful ideas. I don't understand how viewers think this is 'good', people probably say they enjoy it because that is what everyone else says (vicious cycle). I hardly managed to sit through a Youtube clip of this show, there are better ways for me to waste my time. I apologize for the incendiary post, but I just can't review this objectively.

Wife Swap

The clip I watched of Wife Swap was about one family who called themselves "the pirate family" and another that was the perfect family from California. The Baur family, also known as the pirate family, has decided to live life by their own rules. They run around having sword fights on a daily basis and the children do not have any rules that they must follow. The Fine family's most important aspect of life is organization. Everything in their house is labeled and easy to find. The mom calls this her gift and her daughter is quickly following in your footsteps. The Fine family is a stereotype of the perfect family, where the mom places a lot of time on her outward appearance. On the other hand, the Baur family aims to break stereotypes and takes their own unique route through life. When the wives are swapped, it becomes one wife trying to break the stereotype in one family, while the other wife tries to mold the other family into a stereotypical family. The show does not foster the uniqueness of families but rather tries to get families to conform to the opposite families lifestyle.

Cheaters

The guilty pleasure that thousands have watched between the twilight hours is ripe with futile arguments and cheesy fun. Sandwiched with an obnoxious host and poor investigating is the meat of the show: the desire of one for another. (Typically a guy with missing teeth aspiring to be close to a girl with a name like Crystal or Liberty) These excursions come with the inevitable confrontation and the seldom reconciliation after, all the while making us laugh at their humiliation.

Wife Swap

I feel as if the show doesn't utilize the normal moms, or normal parents, in general society. They grab the most polar opposites and stick them together, which makes for great drama. But what if they were to swap the lives of two normal American moms and see what the outcome was. Would nothing happen? Would the spouse or children prefer the new addition over the old? Would similar drama occur as before?

Is it a Good thing?

When I saw a post on a Wife Swap that switched on religion.I immediately thought about controversy. I asked myself whether it is actually good to do this. Its not a question on whether the show is interesting or not. My issue is on whether people can accept differences. That must be a hard thing. They grow up learning specific tradition and then end up getting a wake up call when they see that world doesn't think like them. It's hard for people of different backgrounds to see this, especially religon because it is so spiritual and personal. Then again, as i wrote this, I realized that if we do not know about the world about the world's different views, how can we truly love. If we loved all who were like us, we'd have a lot of hatred.

Wife Swap

Wife Swap relies on stereotypes because that’s how they base who the want to swap. One episode was a family that was really religious and the other family was not religious at all. Switching the wives caused a huge commotion because the religious one really did not like the fact that the other family did not practice any form of religion. They stereotype groups rather than people. Yes they stereotype families most episodes are rich family vs. poor family or rocker family vs. peaceful family. The show portrays women not really in a bad light but it portrays more how stereotypes can really affect families and views people have.

Wife Swap

Wife Swap takes two families with different stereotypes and switches the moms. They definitely do stereotype but it is kind of necessary to keep the show entertaining. In the episode I watched they swapped a somewhat normal family with a really weird one (they thought they were witches/wizards).
The women on this show are portrayed in many ways. In this particular episode both of the wives continuously fought about their role in the family. These fights with their husbands sometimes show how they're inferior to their husbands. In one of the families, she makes all the food, does all the chores, gives her husband foot massages, and doesn't control any of the money. Her husband says he expects this from her. In the other family, however, the wife runs the house.
The show wife swap purposely takes families that have different morals and values and makes them switch. This is done because it is the only way there will be a reaction from the family with the new mom. I believe the point of this show is for the families to stop looking at life in only their point of view and to get a new perspective. I personally find this show entertaining but over all it is kinda pointless.

Wife Swap

The show definitely relies on sterotypes to draw in viewers. They pick two families that seem to be total opposites of one another and switch the wives to make it more dramatic. Nobody would want to watch the show if the families were exactly the same. I've seen the show with a rich family and poor family, christians and aetheists, black and white. The show relies on the stereotypes people associate with these groups of people because they automatically think that they are going to be completely different.

Wife Swap

I feel like every show is exactly the same. A rich wife moves to a poor family and a poor wife lives with a rich family. It might be entertaining for a while but it gets old after one or two episodes. The poor wife learns how to mange money and her family better while the rich wife learns what it is like to poor and that not everybody has money. Sure it provides a good lesson for both these familys but I feel like as soon as the wifes go back to there homes nothing changes and they go back the way they were. It just seems pointleess to me.

Wiffey Swap

So I found the time to watch the show Wife Swap and it's probably one of my least favorite reality TV shows. Just swapping wives and having another women take care of new children and a new husband for a week just seems pointless. Everyone lives different lives and that is common knowledge, so getting all worked up for being in a different setting is just pointless in my oppinion.

wife swap

After watching a clip of Wife Swap I noticed a few things. I think that it basically stereotypes a little bit of the woman of the are supposed to kinda cook and clean thing. I dont think it tries but what it films and what not kind of shows this. Its an interesting show but to me just not practicical. Its hard to throw a "wife" in there and basically tell her to take over the other wifes duties. In the end it pretty much always shows the family being unhappy with the swap and more appreciative of what they have. It doesn't do it the easiest way but in the end it kind of shows to be appreciate of what you have.

Same old story.. Same old wife swap with the Thompson and Askam family

Once again, I am presented with an episode of two stereotyped families. The first family is presented as the father of the household is the superior one of all. His wife does all the household work and satisfies him in every way possible. The children and even the dog have higher authority than the mother does. The show illustrates the mother as a household slave basically with her only job is to serve at will. On the other hand, we are presented with a family of magic beliefs. The children and father believe that the mother is a witch and a goddess-like figure. They bow down to all of her commands and practice all her witchcraft everyday. The family believes the mother to be a high priestess of the spirits above and they have their own church with a few followers. Clearly, one family shows women as an object, or a tool of handy work with little to no power as to the other family alludes women to a goddess-like status that is pure feminism with all will-power. These two do not match up well and throughout the episode, each family shows all the flaws of one another and they do not get along well at all.

opposites attract...attention

Wife swap loves to find families living polar opposite lifestyles. They bring strict, neat freaks into sloppy houses with lazy kids. What a perfect concotion for reality TV! It is so much fun just to see their faces when they see the grime on the toilet of her new family! I have never watched this show prior to now but, i must say that my favorite clip deals with a kid recieving an attractive new mother from the swap. I'm sure it was an emotional departure :(

Swappin Wives

This show absolutely stereotypes women and their families but wether its posotive or negative is up to the viewer. The show simply portrays too different styles of raising a family, it doesnt judge which is positive or negative. Although now that i think of it i have noticed that the house with the most rules and regulations produces the more successfull family so i guess that would qualify as another stereotype.

Wife Swap Stereotypes

After reading Clayton's post about his friend on Wife Swap my view was completely changed. I still believe the show stereotypes families, 100%! But it's great that the families actually get something out of it, and learn how great it really is to be a family, and also enjoy the experience. That said, it's still one of the most dysfunctional shows i've ever seen. Not to mention that the wives are completely stereotyped as housewives that have nothing better to do than all the dirty work around the house. However, if off-camera this show is bettering people's lives, than I kinda approve.

Cake boss!!

I love this show. It always makes me want to eat some type of dessert. I love it because it is so artistic. It's a reality show that demonstrates the process and growth of making a beautiful, edible piece of art. Of course they do add their drama. Broken cakes, bad deliveries, and even funny controversies between the people that work together. The example that I saw was the art and demonstration of the cakes. Buddy ( the main baker) has to make his cakes for the bridal shower. It's cool to see how they settle the conflicts in the end and how the baking problems are solved.

wife swap

The premise of this show is a little similar to the world of jenks because as a wife , you get to live in a different household for two weeks and see what is like living the life of a another woman. The show portrays women as being housewives. Their only job is to take care of the familyamd do daily household chores. This is similar to old times when married women only job was to stay at home to cook, clean etc.. Nowadays , women take on greater responsibilities, especially in industrialized countries women hold offices and other big jobs. The role of women as really changed over the years . Wife swap is showing us what is like to be a housewive which is rarely seen mainly in the American society.

Wife Swap Friends

In 2005, a friend of mine and his family were chosen to be on Wife Swap. I played football with Ashton growing up, and was always a little weirded out by his family. From the outside this family seemed very "out there" or strange to me. They had mannequins dressed in crazy clothing in their living room, had an old booth from McDonalds as their dining room table, and had 2 Chinese Crested dogs. Both parents had crazy colored hair, along with their 2 dogs that had their mohawks dyed and nails painted, and the family wore a lot of dark clothes and chains and what would be stereotyped as "gothic" clothing. The Wilson family was perfect for the show. They looked like what would be a crazy and unethical family from the outside but when you came to get closer to them and got to know them better you realized that these assumptions were wrong because they are caring and personable people just like anybody else you will meet. When I was in 3rd grade I remember going over to Ashtons' house for Halloween, and was shocked to see that his parents were dressed up as male and female genitalia. The Wilson family were a fun and funny family for America to watch and get to know.

Wife Swap is one of the few reality shows that I can tolerate, simply because it is an actual "reality" show for once. I asked Ashton about his experience being on the show after it aired and he said that it was awesome and he would do it a million times over because not only did the family get a large amount of money for being on the show, but learned many things about what "family" truely means and he learned many things that he will keep in mind for his future family. This show gets an A+ in my book.

Wife Swap

Wife Swap is a unique show because families switch wives for two weeks for some prize money. The show relies on stereotypes to make the show more interesting. They would wife swap a black family with a white wife to make it more dramatic. Maybe the producers thought that this will cause some tension for the family and the wife. Also, they are very stereotypical of women. Many wives are the typical house mom that takes care of the kids, and house. Usually, they switch wives according to opposite. The Imani family are black vegetarians, who have professional careers, are swapped with a white family that eats very unhealthy. This shows that the typical African family aren't who people think they are.

Wife Swap Eye Opener

It is so intriguing to watch Wife Swap and see all of the different families and their unique interests. I watched an episode about a goth family who had the artistic views of not caring if they are being judged and trying to find happiness and beauty in different areas like a cemetery. The family would have picnics on top of graves; they are even convinced that one of their daughters can communicate with the dead. The other family is more normal, and very concentrated on sports; particularly hockey. The parents are absolutely obsessed with their two sons and their love for hockey. They also have a daughter who enjoys dancing. As a consequence, she is neglected because of her lack of love for hockey. When their sons make a bad pass or miss a shot on the ice, they will yell, "LOSER!!" or "YOU SUCK!." Its funny to watch the show pair two completely different families with completely different views on life and have the moms impose their lifestyles and rules on the new families. It is definitely a show to give a chance; it really made me think about my family and lifestyle and be thankful for the normality that is present.

Wife Swap

Yes, Wife Swap relies on stereotypes that are opposite of one another. I watched the episode Boss/Guastaferro and it was horrible. The Boss family stereotyped a feminist family that teaches all three little girls to be independent, educated, strong, powerful, and all around knowledge. The children learn greatly about feminist women, who made their mark in history. The mother does not allow the girls to wear make-up because it signals that girls are pressured to be good looking and a thing for men. The Guastaferro family is a stereotype of a single, perfect little child that is spoiled greatly by her parents. However, the girl is spoiled far beyond anything you can imagine. Her parents spend over 100,000 dollars each year on her beauty Padget alone!! Also, she has no chores at all, they have a Christmas tree up and give her a present every day, her own mom does ALL her homework, her dad is her very own stylist, and she is very self-centered. The woman are protrayed as the center for stereotypes on each show. They are the victims of each show because every drama scene are always centered around a woman or the series of them. That is why the show is called Wife Swap!!! They are like an item you can sell, trade, or own.

Wife Swap

The show Wife Swap has been around for a long time, and for as long as I can remember I have never been a fan. I just can't get my head around the idea of taking a "Mom" or "Wife" and bringing her into a strangers home to take care of someone else's family. Especially in most cases these wives get treated horribly by the men and children they are forced to live with.
I'm not sure if it would be considered a stereotype, maybe more biased to the fact that the woman of the house should be the one to cook, clean, take care of the kids, etc. In all of the episodes I had seen the husband who lives with the swapped wife makes her feel unwelcomed and never wants to put up with anything that she enforces. In the end most families appreciate what they had been taking for granted.
As a whole, the show does portray people in very stereotypical ways.

WIFE SWAP ID THE STEREOTYPES

Many of you wrote about the show Wife Swap in your posts about a family RTV show. I want everyone to watch an episode of Wife Swap or clips online and think about how the show relies on and uses stereotypes. Do they stereotype people or groups? Do they stereotype families? What are some of the stereotypes on the show? How does the show portray women?

Reality Show Drama

Blogging all of my thoughts on this reality show thing has shown me that most of these shows are not worth watching. If you watch a happy episode of teen mom where everyone begins to make peace, the next week will have an abusive mother hitting her baby's daddy. If you watch people making a difference in True life with the positive way they deal with OCD, the next week its about women who want plastic surgery.....Idk, its never the same. Does anyone know of one positive show that never changes based on ratings? Is anything really ever authentic?

I started watching Jersey Shore with my friends again... Everytime I watch it, it makes me feel better about my own life. lol I find the characters in that show to be just a bunch of pathetic losers. lol

Kardashians

I always watch the kardashians show because I love the family and I find it super entertaining. I love the way their family is so open with all of their problems and i love how close they all are. The family is constantly together or calling each other and play a huge role in each other's lives, so I think they are good role models to any other family. I love how close the three sisters, kourtney, khloe, and kim are and how each other's opinions matter. Also their mom is their manager so it makes them spend even more time with each other. I dont find the show to be staged because I feel like it all comes out too natural. And i actually find that guys even love this show because the family is so open and funny, just because the main focus is girls there's still alot of things young adults relate to that happen on the show, like relationships, family problems, and everything else

Runs house

Whenever i watch a family show it is almost Runs House. It has to deal with Rev Run part of the famous Run DMC group. He is like any other dad, stern with his rules and leaniant when kids want something. Hes not the person to give everything his child wants but does spoil them to a extent. With reality family shows i would say this is probably one of the best ones. The kardashians show is nothing but a bunch of insanely rich kids doing whatever they want, which is cool but very annoying because they're morons. Runs House always has a message at the end of the show. On family and how they should always love eachother at the end of the day. Runs house is directed at younger crowd or the younger famlies. A good show for MTV standards.

Little People, Big World

Little People, Big World is about the daily struggles of the Roloff Family. The Roloff family are midgets with 4 children. Only one of them is a midget. Each episode tell the story of this family but showing us the struggles of being a midget in the society. I believe that it portrays a non-traditional family only because they're on tv. The producers of the show might cut things out or control the situation once in awhile. The show's purpose is to inform people of the struggles of being smaller.

Wife Swap

Wife Swap has always been an interesting show because of the theme of the show. Families have a new mother for a couple of weeks. I never thought that this show would ever be aired on TV. I dont see excitement of having another "wife" in that situation. It doesn't fit the word family at all because one wive has never even met the other swapped family. I feel this situation would be awkward to be in. During every show, the families don't get along because the swapped wife has no idea how the family runs, or know the family's personality. Some scenes could be rehearsed for more drama.

Kardashians

Keeping up with the Kardashians is always an entertaining show. There's always some type of drama but at the end of the day they always work it out and continue to maintain being a close family. the fact that they're in the limelight definitely makes me watch the show more and i become more interested in what they're doing. It's one of my favorite reality tv shows and it always makes me laugh. plus, the baby is adorable.

Wife Swap

I watched an episode of Wife Swap and honestly did not find it interesting at all. I don't think I need to explain it, the title says it all. It could be for any audience just not young children. The families that participate are somewhat traditional but they're all a little dramatic in my opinion. The show obviously doesn't have a purpose (no reality show really does), however, i think the acting is much less staged than it is on shows like Real World and Jersey Shore. I think what happens in this show it what is actually happening. But it's not as entertaining as those other shows. It could be just cause i'm of a younger crowd but my mom doesn't like it either.

wife swap

Wife Swap is a show where 2 moms switch families in exchange for some money. They usually put the moms into completely opposite settings for instance they will place a very strict and successful southern bell with a pushover stay at home mom. The main audience for this show is whole families. I think the purpose of this show is to show how different families can be. I don't think this show is staged however it may be slightly dramatized at times, for example the strict mom may act more strict than she is in reality. Wife Swap shows that the idea of a family varies according to that particular families preferences.

Jon and Kate Plus 8

Jon and Kate Plus 8 was a show that I used to watch religiously. I could not get enough of the adorable sextuplets. The family's ability to overcome daily challenges that are magnified due to having eight children kept me mesmerized. The show documents a type of family that isn't considered to be the stereotypical mother, father, and two children type family. It shows how far we've come from the white picket fence"American Dream." Jon and Kate plus 8 is watched by all different types of audiences from teenagers to mothers. I think people have a certain admiration for their ability to handle each of the very different children and tailor to each of their needs. Mothers watch the show when their days get tough and think "well at least I'm not in Kate's shoes." The show provides as an escape from one possibly hectic household to another, where you only have to watch, not act on the crying and yelling. Although I'm sure every reality show has it's cues from the directors (such as telling the family what they think the audience will want to see), this show seems to be pretty real. It is hard to control what a bunch of four year olds are going to say or do so things can't be very scripted. Viewers would not get the same enjoyment out of the show if it was rehearsed and staged because then it wouldn't be two parents dealing with eight kids like they normally do. As much as I loved this show and adored the children, I was completely turned away from it once the whole scandal began between Jon and Kate. When this occurred, it made me feel like the entire show was a lie. Now instead of adoring the children, I feel bad for them and think they deserve better than constantly being in the spotlight because of their mother's need for fame. Even though I believed the show was not staged before the scandal, I now believe that it actually might be.

Little People Big World

This is a show about a family of midgets. The mother and father are midgets but only one out of their three kids is. This show is about the struggles they experience in a daily life because they are short. It is showing that even though they look different they are in fact like everyone else that, but simple task take a little longer to do. I personally believe that this show exploits the family.

The Kardashians

Keeping up with the kardashians is one of my favorite reality TV show that portays the aspect of a certain type of American family. They are supportive to one another. Even though sometimes , there are disagrements and fight between them but at the end, they all come together as a family. All three sisters have completely different goals and characters but they all love and try to be as respective to each other as they can be. For example , when Kourtney first told Khloe that she was pregnant with Scott's baby. Khloe did not approve of it , but after a little sister talk, she promise Kourtney that she will be here for her every step of the way and she will try her best to stop judging Scott. I also love how money does not come between them . They are bond together as a family.

Keeping Up with the Kardashians

My favorite reality show that is based on family is Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It demonstrates how even the most glamorized family still has problems and how they are definietly far from normal. I think the reason that I like it so much is because it really reminds me of what my family is like.
The show deals with the Kardashian family and everything they go through on a daily basis. Whether it's attending a photoshoot, shopping, babysitting, or even just watching Bruce play with his toy helicopters. The show plays a big part in making sure everyone in the family is happy and getting along with one another. I think viewers really enjoy watching the show because they get to see what these celebritites are really like especially around those that they care the most about.
The family may not have the best ethics or values but thats what makes it so easy for people to relate. The audiance can see that the Kardashians are in fact just like any other normal family and don't have to fit some cookie cutter mold.

Gene Simmons Famaliy Jewels

The show is about Gene Simmons from KISS and his family. The family is some what a traditional family because they follow the traditional structure. Gene is the traditional father who is the head of the family. Then there is the mother and kids. The audience seems to be any age whether or not they have a family.

The show doesn't seem to be rehearsed because there are cameras around them all the time.

Intervention

This week I watched intervention, and I personaly find this show hard to watch. We all see drugs in movies and think nothing of it but as soon as we see how it really affects someones life it is hard to watch. They show these people useing and show there family sobbing because someones son or daughter is inches from death. The purpose of this show is to interveiw a person on drugs and to ultimatly have an intervention to try and make them go to rehab. The sadest part is when they show there baby pictures and home movies when they show the a kid just being a kid and now you see a messed up person high all the time it is really sadd to see someones life that is that horibale and to see how they are affecting everything else.

Worlds Strictist Parents

This week I watched a couple episodes of The Worlds Strictist Parents, and it was actually pretty entertaining. What they do is they take 2 kids, usually one troubled teenage boy and one trooubled teenage girl, and put them into a home where the parents are very strict and the kids obey them. This show teaches that even some of the toughest and most outragious teens can be broken and tought how to behave. Even though these strict parents don't run traditional homes where their children get a decent amount of freedom to be kids, it's pretty realisitc. I feel as though the audiance for this show is teenagers and adults ages 13-50. It doesn't seem staged, but some of the stuff the teens do could very well be. Overall it's a good show, and I enjoyed watching it.

kardashian swag

kim has created this unstoppable "family" the little sisters whom at the last episode i watched were 12 years old are now mature and dating! Kourtney has become the eptitome of the show with her wild Scotty punching everything his alcoholic-self sees. This is not a "traditional" family by any means. No show will ever show a traditional family. That is not interesting! no one wants to watch a boring family. they already have one of those. They want to ESCAPE and see how badd some one else is has it.

Wife Swap. Kind of a funny concept

Wife Swap actually was somewhat entertaining and just different than alot of the other reality shows I've seen recently. The idea of taking to mothers from different backgrounds, locations, living conditions, ethnicities and more is pretty entertaining. Its interesting just to see how different two people can be from just different sides of the USA. East coast and west coast people, the way they live. People from different religions, people from the country city, desert, mountains, and just little things like this make it interesting. I'd say the audience for this show can really range. I think older people would like this at times but some wouldnt find it entertaining and the same goes for teens. Its obviously not for really young children as it wouldnt entertain them but it has a pretty wide audience. I dont think it really has a "purpose" because I dont really think any reality show has a "purpose" but it is a little more interesting than something like a MTV jersey shore or real world. I also like how the show doesnt feel totally staged and seems somewhat real.

Jon Kate and Eight

The premise of the show was to let the whole world see just how crazy it is ,for the life of Jon and Kate, to manage eight kids by theirselves everyday. Family to them is the idea of everyone sticking together as one force and helping one another as they all continue to take steps forward in the world. They protray a traditional family structure Because the oldest kids has the most responsiblities with all the other brothers and sisters. They have to help out with the leaders mom and dad around the house with chores and instigating rules. The general audience for this show is parents. It really can be for everyone, but Kate and Jon show parents just how crazy life can get with so many kids running around, the frustrations the couple has, and the fact that no matter what they always get through each day together and stick with the family as a whole. The show is in hopes of other parents can take after these main points, form Jon and Kate, in raising a successful family and marriage. You can clearly tell the show is not staged. During each day, Kate and Jon get interviewed a few times about certain things that happen each day, but each scene is chaotic and doesn't show a real script to it. I mean how can you control eight kids ages eight and under years old. They really do show how insane eight kids are together in the house everyday, but they illustrate how in the end, seeing the kids grow up is all worth the hard life of a parent.

Kardashians

The Kardashians represent a non-traditional family structure. This is known because Bruce is their step-dad but he did have two girls with their mom. The premise of Keeping Up with the Kardashians is to show how they live and what their everyday lives consist of. The audience for this show is basically from teenagers to adults, specifically girls. You know this because its a show about a family nothing to vulgar. The show's purpose is to inform audience members that even though they are famous, they deal with problems like a regular family.

Wife Swap

This is a pretty cool show. It's also a pretty innovative idea.Taking two moms from totally different cultures and traditions and even living habits and switching them! It naturally produces conflict without even trying to act it out. It really shows the big amount of diversity of people in America. It also emphasizes how location affects the way people act! If there is someone from the country, they will act a lot different to someone living in the city.

FAMILY REALITY

This week I’d like you to identify a reality show about family. Watch an episode or two and analyze it here on the blog.

What is the premise of the show?

How is it commenting on the idea of “family”?

Does it portray a traditional family structure? a non-traditional structure? How do you know this?

Who is the audience for this particular show? How do you know?

What is the show’s purpose?

Is it staged? Do scenes feel rehearse? Why or why not? What’s the point?

Feel free to make other relevant observations as well.

kinda funny video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc15Y3f5LCA. I found this on youtube and thought it was kind of entertaining. I dont know if its serious or a joke but either way, they both have points. Theyre right because it shows that their lives arent all that great, but at the same time the other girl is saying it glamorizes it, and not every teen pregnant story can end up happily ever after being helped with MTV's money.

Reality

So, it has been tough to watch any TV this week due to work and other obligations but here are some of my thoughts on Teen Mom and other shows. I don't believe in these shows because it puts these teen moms on TV, something that shouldn't be done. If I was a teen father or mother, I would be ashamed and not want to be on TV. I think this shows how society is changing and their views toward certain ideals.

teen mom

I have seen the teen mom show in mtv several times when there is no other option on television. I do not think mtv glamorizes it, i think they show what happens when a teen gets pregnant. which happens frequently in our country. It shows how much it sucks when you dont go to school and your from a poor family and how you have to care for a life at age 16 17 18 or whatever. I dont see how that would be a situation anyone would want to be in. These select mothers just get very lucky they were chosen for the show. If they werent im sure they would be way more depressed or angry. They get paid so lifes good to have a child, but thats only a few out of the millions of teen pregnancies. Who the hell would want a child at age 16

Drama Drama Drama

I think we can all agree that one of the biggest reasons why we watch reality tv is for the drama right? And I think I know why. We like watching how miserable people's lives are because it makes us feel better about our life. They are someone to point at and think to yourself "Atleast I am not like that" and that is why we like reality T.V.

Teen Mom

I don't quite understand why MTV couldn't show Snookie getting punched, but in this show they allow the audience to see all the fights and abuse. Mostly it's the girls toward the guys, but still. Why should they be able to show girls beating up guys, but not guys beating up girls. I really just don't understand it. I guess this show helps people see what it's like to be a teen parent, but then they have a couple that put their kid up for adoption and now they are just following them around. They are no longer really party of "Teen Mom" and I'm not sure how their relationship completly relates to the topic of the show.

Mama Drama

I don't think Teen Mom has necassarily glamourized teen pregnancy. They have shown how hard it is to be a parent when you are a teenager throughout the episodes. They even give the story of a couple who decided to give their baby up for adoption and how hard it was for them to do that. When i watch the show i definitely don't think to myself that i want to get pregnant because honestly their lives seem miserable. i'm sure the network does things to enhance the drama that comes out of the show but even without the drama being a mom at 16 doesn't sound all that appealing to me.

Teen Mom

I believe that the people on Teen Mom can become famous or well-known easily. The more drama, the more people will pay attention to teen moms. I don't think MTV will sensor anything because they love it. They want the drama, which could possibly be why the police were tipped.

Teen mom

Teen mom show us the struggle of young teenage parents. They are living a pretty tough life. I like the show because it shows how harsh life can be when you make some bad decisions . I mean having a kid is great and wonderful but when you are on tour early teenage years , having a kid is quite tiring and demand a lot of work . So by watching this show, teenage girls can learn that they should wait for the right time to have a kid if they don't want to go to all this daily struggle that the teen moms are going through.

Teen Mom

I don't believe that Teen Mom "glamorizes" teen pregnancy at all. I know when I watch the show it just makes me realize what I DONT want my life to be like. I would never look up to the lives of teen parents, struggling through having a baby so early. I would also never think that people would have babies as teens just so they could have a sliiiight chance of being on mtv. As for the hitting between Amber and Gary on that episode, maybe part of MTVs motivations were to create more drama for the show by calling the police, but I'm sure enough viewers said something about it that they HAD to get the police involved, I mean thousands of people watched what happened on their tvs..

Teen Mom Blooper

I think that if this rediculas show is to continue on MTV it must change what it is about. I personally know 3 teen moms and it is NOTHING like how the show makes it seem. I think that Teen Mom should only be aired if it focuses on the struggles and the hardships of being a teen mom, and the lengths that these girls have to go to make it all work, not bring these young girls to fame because of the crummy situation they got themselves into. I hate this show and think it is really offensive to other teen moms that arent getting paid and put on TV for everybody to watch. Also, the police getting involved is a good thing to me. That girl slapping and hitting and kicking her baby daddy and embarrassing him like that on national television like that is not ok.

Teen Mom

The one girl in the show Teen mom takes domestic violence to a new level. It shows that the girl can sometimes be the abuser. Most people only believe it is the men. Even then showing things like this on TV is not a positive thing I don't believe that MTV will ever edit things like this out of their shows. This type of drama is what keeps the viewers attention and makes people want to keep watching the show.

Scrappers

I dont know if anyone watches this show but Scrappers is hilarious and seems to be pretty close to reality. Its about 3 teams of guys who go around brooklyn looking for metal to sell to scrap yards. Real reality shows are hard to find these days but i think this may be one of them. If anybody wants to watch it you can do it here

It's becoming more and more ridiculous

I totally agree with Kyle below about the latest Jersey Shore episode. I decided the only thing that this show accomplishes whatsoever anymore is it really makes you feel good about yourself and laugh. It seems to become more and more of a joke and is almost 100% not "reality." At this point its just pure entertainment.

Teen Mom... Whow

MTV should be blasted for this fight they showed on television. It demoralizes the fact that this is what really happens to many teen moms. Having a kid at such a young age and being young with a boyfriend leads to many problems. Most of the teen parents dont end up staying together. They fight with one another, have an unhealthy relationship, and never be happy as a family. Clearly, MTV wants to show these facts that this is a reality. These relationships do involve much violence and stress. However, tipping the police off is unnecessary and that should be the couples decision to let the police get involved or not. MTV has gone too far with some of their relationships. Some things should be left private and not on television.
I managed to catch the new episode of jersey shore the other day...it made for some quality entertainment in which I got to feel better about my own life while watching a scripted show that caters to those who feel bad about their life! lol it was awesome.

Insane Teen Mom

I have watched the show Teen Mom enough times to know that Amber is crazy. She is constantly yelling at her baby dady Gary, and telling him how much she hates him. That's why it doesn't really surprise me when I watched the clip of her physically abusing him. It's really disturbing to think that she is the mother of their child and is behaving in such a violent manor, yet she is always blaming everything on Gary.
It doesn't really surprise me that MTV tipped off the police, because the whole point of these reality show is to have an overdose of drama. I honestly don't think that it's a bad thing that they did that because it is now bringing attention to violence among teens. It's a good way to demonstrate what goes on in teenagers lives today.

TEEN MOM VIOLENCE

Tuesday's episode of Teen Mom has recieved a lot of hype due to the violence between Gary and Amber. MTV goes on to theme the episode as one on violence in relationships. Lately MTV has been blasted for the show because it supposedly "glamourizes" the notion of teen pregnancy by elevating teen parents to stardom. What do you think about this argument?

Do you think that this could push MTV to edit the episodes of Teen Mom in a way that sheds light on the hardships of teen parenthood?

Here's what Perez Hilton has to say about the violence between Amber and Gary (complete with a clip):
http://perezhilton.com/2010-09-30-teen_mom_amber_portwood_investigated_assault
What do you think about his implication that MTV tipped the police off in order to stir up more drama for the show?

It's all the same

Im in the same boat as Cam, I couldn't get my laptop to work this week, but after talking to some people who have watched the shows I have come to form my opinion. Honestly, the shows sound about the same. Both shows are made to entertain people, so therefore they aren't truly reality. Hugh has numerous "girlfriends" that live in his mansion. Then again, he is the original Playboy so that is expected. The show is only ment as entertainment and nothing more. Sister Wives on the other hand is ment for adult audiences. Both deal with polygamous relationships, which I honestly do not agree with. All in all both shows don't sound like the type of show I would even consider watching.

Weird

The shows The Girls Next Door and Sister Wives are similiar in the sense that they both publicly display polygamous relationships. Hugh Hefner has his three girlfriends and the other show has four wives. For me, i find that The Girls Next Door is more entertaining and less weird because they don't take it so seriously. Everybody knows that Hugh has always had the reputation to have several girlfriends but he doesn't go and make them his wives. The Girls Next Door is a more light-hearted, fun show to watch and Sister Wives seems to be more serious about breaking the mold of what a family can be like. Girls Next Door glamourizes the idea of a polygamous relationship more because it's not really real life for them. They life more in a fantasy world with private jets and a mansion whereas Sister Wives is set more in the real world. I personally think that Sister Wives is weird and the whole idea of 1 dad, 4 wives, and 20 children freaks me out. They're trying to say that this is an acceptable lifestyle and it's not. It's saying that it's ok for a guy to have more than one wife and the wives on the show and that the man has all the control. I feel like this show is going to send the wrong message to younger generations.

Ew

For some reason, I haven't been able to make either of those videos work on my laptop all week. But I did read reviews so I have some idea of what's going on. They are similar, but they don't portray the same thing. In my opinion, Girl's Next Door is much more for entertainment. I also find it more acceptable because these are just girlfriends and it's Hugh Hefner and almost expected out of him. It also comes off as glamourous. Sister Wives, however, I am completely repulsed by. That is in no way socially acceptable. It's just weird. This show is much more for awareness than entertainment. I feel like this is for more of an adult audience. Sister Wives probably receives more scrutiny because it's marriage and you're raising your kids together. Hugh is just having fun and it's his lifestyle. Women are portrayed terribly on both shows. I feel like these girls are being walked all over because the man is not happy with just one of them.

Sister Wives still just TV

I think some people are taking this show just a little too seriously. Although it does reflect some real-life situations, it's just TV. This type of entertainment will always exist just to entertain, not to force an opinion upon us. It's okay to comment on the lifestyles presented in this show, but there's no need to passionately defend or attack what the show presents. It's there merely for your viewing pleasure. Again, I am aware that some families in our society consist of multiple wives married to one man, but that's not to say Sister Wives is an accurate representation of this lifestyle. Watch the show for enjoyment, not to debate about real-life issues.

Television Changing

Both shows are about the idea that men do not have to choose one partner to settle down with. In the Girls Next Door, Playboy creator, Hugh Hefner lives his life of luxury, both sexual and financial, with three different girlfriends. For the first few seasons, the girlfriends were comprised of Holly, Bridget, and Kendra, but at this point, the three have already been replaced. From the clip that I have seen of the Sister Wives, it seems to be the same concept, however it is about marriage rather than relationships. Both of these shows seem to aim towards bringing awareness to non-monogamous relationships and show the change in our society. Slowly, things such as polygamous marriages are going to become accepted by society. For now, however, the show will continue to receive a lot of bashing because it conveys something that is not expected or normal according to society's standards. The Girls Next Door did not receive such negative views because it was solely for enjoyment purposes. Boys and men enjoyed the show because of the "hot" girls and everyone thought it was okay for Hugh Hefner to pull such a stunt because he is the creator of a nude magazine. No one expected Hugh to ever settle down and marry all of his girlfriends. Sister Wives, on the other hand, shows average people living lives with multiple wives and the emotional issues that come with it. Personally, I found the show to be disgusting and found a hard time watching it and processing the fact that all of the women were the man's wives. For now, it isn't something that is morally acceptable.

Playboy girls vs. Man with many wives

Neither of these shows really appealed to me, and the only thing that did is the fact that there is extremely hot playboy girls in one and a man that has what soooo many men want... more than one wife! In Sister Wives they make it seem normal to have more than one wife, which is kind of weird. I don't really agree with having more than one wife, but it is kind of a nice thought. As far as the Playboy girls go, I don't really care what they do on a daily basis living together.

Sister Wives

In my opinion this guy is nuts and so are the girls. I mean i thought dealing with one girl was complicated enough , but three !? That is just way too many mood swings for me. I looked up what youtube had on the subject and found an interesting video about how he is considering a fourth wife !

Girls next door vs Sister wives ..Different or similar ?

I've watched a couple of episodes of girls next door not long ago. I think this show is similar to jersey shore where the plot is mostly about sexuality parties and drama. They are created mostly for a young audience. The cast of "Girl next door" are girls that are in their early twenties that goes around and trying to win the heart of a men that is old enough to be their grandfather. In my opinion there aren't any lessons that can be learned from these shows. All they teaching young girls especially is how to please men and also the superiority of men over women. I think the women in "sister wives"have been seriously brainwashed. They live like sisters with the mentality that it is perfectly normal and moral to share a husband. They support each other and live like family under the same roof. I think "girls next door" is more about money, popularity and fame contrarily as"sister wives" where the scene and everything is more realistic than the playboy mansion. However they both give a bad image on how some women are viewed and treated in our society nowadays.

Girls Next Door vs Sister Wives

I watched a couple of episodes from The Girls Next Door and watched a couple of clips from Sister Wives and I think it’s all crazy. I think The Girls Next Door is more entertaining and has a younger audience because it is the Playboy Mansion and they have all these crazy parties and photo shoots but I think that Sister Wives has an older audience because it’s an average family, well kind of, and has a more serious tone to it. I think the message for each show is to demonstrate how “normal” it is to some people to have multiple girlfriends and wives and how the wives are so content and everyone just loves each other. Even though I definitely think that The Girls Next Door is more of a show for entertainment because I’m not sure how serious the playboy mansion can be taken. I think the wives in the Sister Wives show are just brainwashed and dumb for thinking that it’s okay for him to love and be with them all, because he’s basically having his cake and eating it too. It just makes women seem used. And in The Girls Next Door it’s all definitely for the fame, glamour, and money but everyone that watches the show knows this, which is why I don’t think this show gets as much criticism.

I think that The Girls Next Door is strictly entertainment. This to me gives nothing back to the viewer for watching the show, it just entertains us by letting us watch an extremely rich man go about his days and follow him around to special events and very expensive situations. Sister Wives on the other hand, seems to actually teach the person watching it some type of moral value. It lets us dive into an unpopular and to most people, taboo, culture or lifestyle. Hugh and his girlfriends have seemingly no problems because of the amount of money Hugh has, and the famous lifestyle they get to live in. whereas, Sister Wives serves as an informative type reality show, and would be comparable to shows such as True Life and Teen Mom.
-These two shows do not compare much to me, and act as very different forms of entertainment. The Girls Next Door is the beez-neez

The Girl Next Door vs The Sister Wives

These shows both compare because it is one male with multiple female partners. The big difference is Hugh Wefner only has three girlfriends, no wives. In the sister wives, it is one male and four wives, who all have children of their own. They have over 20 children together and they work as any normal family. I feel like Hefner's show is more entertainment than any other, and the sister wives is more awareness. They are trying to prove that having a family like theirs can work, and its no big deal. The Sister Wives is socially unacceptable because not many people have four wives. The Sister Wives is more offensive than Hefner's show because people know who Hugh Hefner is and having three girlfriends at one time fits with his life. The women are portrayed differently in each show. The girls next door has the typical stripper/porn star girl, and the sister wives has educated adults with average lives.

World of Jenks

After seeing the video of " World of Jenks" that Ryan posted, I realized that I often overlook the fact that we are all human. It is so easy to look up to these famous individuals because they have what the world calls success:money and fame. But if we place ourselves in their shoes, could we honestly say that they are truly happy? They deal with heartache too. They have money, but does this really fill them? Maino has a family, but I'm sure that he would love to spend more time with them. He has to work in order to provide for them. He has a job that requires him to be away most of the time. He has to go on stage to perform no matter what his emotional and physical condition may be. This reality show, gave me a whole new perspective on the life of the famous.

Big Difference

Well Sister wives is very different then The Girls Next Door, clearly. Hugh has all these girls who really do not even do anything but live the life. On the other hand, you have this unique family that not many people are used to seeing. It is interesting and I am intrigued to see how the three wives and their children live together like that. Even though they have their own places I would think some jealousy would be floating around because their is only one husband. But that is my assumption, but girls next door is not really a relationship thing to me its just a pimp who happens to be very rich and has many "girlfriends".

Ohhhh Boyyy

Oh Boy is all there is to say about the new show The Sister Wives. I feel like people watch these types of shows because it makes their life look normal. This new show is at least something that tv has not seen before, which means it will probably draw much attention. As to the show the Girls Next Door, I see where people could compare it to the Sister Wives, but I don't believe that they are at all. Hugh Hefner does not try or pretend that him and all his girlfriends are a family. They are just his girlfriends/their boss. He has created a multi billion dollar industry out of it.

sister wives

As similar as one might expect the shows of sister wives and Girls next door, i feel as they are not. In Girls next door the relationships are ones of a strange bond that hugh has, there is no relationship of marriage really, more like one of fun times with good company. In sister wives there is a marriage like relationship which i think is demeaning to each wife there. Each having there own cooking area and apt? I cant say if these wives are truly happy in just a short clip but hughs girls are working/ having fun, a different role entirely.
The audience that sister wives is for is not directly aimed in any one, the shock value of this program can be enjoyed form a young girl or guy, to any adults. Girls next door is what i can see a young male or female teen dreaming about.

What a Joke

The girls next door has its audience for young girls with their fantasies. The sister wives has an adult audience because it clearly depicts a family life through a husband and a wife's perspective. However, for the three wives to be branched off like that disgusts me. This never depicts the reality of having multiple wives because they're always in secret and never together. Even the husband of the three wives doesn't seem real at all. The guy hardly shows any affection to his wives and twenty kids. This just demoralizes our society into accepting these kinds of house living even though none of these marriages show any love with the family members. The girls next door is retarded too. It just shows a pimp getting what he wants only because of his money. I'll put my life on the line to say that the guy would never have those three girlfriends if he didn't have the money amount like he has now with him. In the end, all of these girlfriends or wives are only in the shows for the money. They don't love one another, they're selfish, and it only demoralizes our society as a whole when we accept these non- monogamous relationships.
